South Atherton Tablelands - Malanda

After a few hours drive, we arrived to our new home for the next few days of the Malanda Falls Caravan Park. It is literally a few steps down the hill behind the caravan park and you are standing next to the Malanda Waterfalls. This park is fantastic for the family with massive open spaces to kick a ball around in, farm animals to feed & walking distance to the town centre. We were greeted with a kind gesture of fresh oranges as well, that were gifted to the park by a kind local. After setting up, we headed out for what was left of the day to the Mungalli Creek Bio-Dynamic Dairy. This was such a treat with the kids as they tasted some fresh made ice cream & we purchased a bottle of their milk, feta & cream. The milk came in handy (or what was left of it) to make some Ricotta & then this was turned into two single serve Cheesecakes for dessert. Check it out below -

The next day we checked out the amazing waterfalls that are found in this part of the Atherton Tablelands. There are three amazing falls in one short circuit - Millaa Millaa (you might have heard of it, as it is the most photographed falls in Australia), then the Zillie Falls & finally the Ellinjaa Falls. They each have their unique traits with the Ellinjaa falls being our favourite, as you could nearly walk out to the base, as it is so shallow. These are so breathtakingly beautiful & well worth a visit. On the way back we detoured via Lake Eacham with its crystal blue serene waters. It would be perfect for a lunch picnic however we were not that organised. A special mention made to Greg, who only just got us back to the Malanda Fuel station with 2kms to spare on the guage...it was an anxious drive back that I don't wish to repeat...ekk.

While we were out and about we visited the Gallo Dairy Farm to learn about their farming & watched the afternoon milking session (the kids found this fascinating). We also pick up some yummy Gallo Camerbert Cheese & lastly stopped in at the Shaylee Strawberry Farm for some delicious new season strawberries. You can see a yummy recipe the strawberries were used in here.

We are off north next to Lake Tinaroo in the middle of the Tablelands for some fishing & to checkout all that it has on offer. See you then. Lisa
