Heading south we found a fantastic low cost camp to spend a few nights in Ingham called Tyto Wetlands. It was the perfect spot for the kids to explore the wildlife, bird watch and then take a leasurely stroll into the main street of Ingham. We found two amazing Italian Deli's and stocked up on Ravioli, Olives, Sundried Tomatos, Feta and so much more, which soon became a grazing board lunch with some home made bread sticks...yay for the ease the Tmx brings.
Our main reason for stopping at Ingham was to venture out to the amazing Wallaman Falls. Three of the boys decided to take the walk down to the base of the falls, while Fin & I picniced in the car at the top. There is so much water that you can hear the roar even from far off in the distance.
From Ingham we headed to Rollingstone just north of Townsville with a quick stop in at Frosty Mango for some icecream & the postcard picture with Frosty. Rollingstone is a hidden gem on the beach. It is hiding behind some pinapple farms, just five minutes of the Bruce Highway. They kids were well entertained with the stocked dams to fish, beach fishing (however watching for the local crocs), the pool (which was apparently cold) & plenty of space to ride the bikes. The sites were large and well spaced out, and we just enjoyed chilling out for a few days. In preperation for heading West shortly, I used the amazing Cookidoo.com.au to meal plan the coming 10days and then Click & Collect the groceries at the Woolworths on the outskirts of Townsville....How awesome & easy is it!!! Being that we don't have a local Woolworths at home, it is the first time I have utilised it personally.
We then headed out west towards Hughenden and quickly felt the hot dry warmth at our lunch stop at Charters Towers. I am certainly a coastal girl and couldn't wait to get back in the car. These next few weeks were on the boys agenda....certainly not mine. I would have been happy to camp up and down the coastline, however I am assured that I will love the Gorges out west....time will tell. After another few hours, lots of dry dusty road, we arrived at a free camp next to Hughenden Showgrounds. We will spend the next few nights here exploring the local area before heading further West.
See you soon
