Cairns, Lake Tinaroo (take2) & Cooktown

This update has been a long time coming. Our plans, which were loose, were sent into disarray with the Cairns lockdown, then wet weather struck, sending us out onto the Tablelands once again. We set up camp for 4 nights at Kauri Creek Campgrounds on the side of Lake Tinaroo with the most spectacular view of the lake from the van. The weather was wet on and off for the four days & the solar was struggling to recharge the batteries so we decided that it was time for the luxury of a van park. We packed up & headed back to Lake Tinaroo Holiday Park for the week ahead while the wet weather passed. Between the rain, we squeezed in a drive to Herberton Historic Village & visited the Mount Hypipamee Crater & Dinner Waterfalls.

From here we decided to head north behind the wet weather up to Cooktown. This was not on our original itinerary, however we are so pleased we did. Cooktown is full of history which the boys absolutely loved. We spent half a day exploring the Cooktown History Museum - the treasure hunt activity sheets kept the kids engaged as we wandered through the displays (& I think we enjoyed them as much as the kids did). We did a drive-by & then walk up to Grassy Hill, which has a lighthouse & a spectacular 360 degree view. We finished our time in Cooktown with a wander through the Botanic Gardens (check out the teal coloured flowers pictured). If you have holidays coming up, I can highly recommend Cooktown & FNQ at this time of year....it is just perfect :)

Come check out this yummy new recipe to Cookidoo (not for my DF & GF friends unfortunately & I am yet to experiment to see if it will work for you).
